After studying the boating handbook—an excellent guidebook provided by BoatWise—and completing practice tests on the NSW Transport website, I felt well-prepared for my lessons. During a full 6-hour day on the water in Pittwater, Tristian expertly guided me through the essentials of safe boat preparation, startup procedures, and all the necessary basics. His testing included the rules of the water and navigating various markers and hazards. Thanks to his thorough instruction, I successfully passed my practical assessment and received my certificate, followed by my NSW Boat License the next day! A week later, I enjoyed another full day on the water with Tristian, where I learned to handle the boat in more challenging situations. We practiced various techniques with the engines and reviewed the basics, such as anchoring, mooring, and docking smoothly. Went today with my wife for out boat licence, I was really nervous at the start within a min Tristan the instructor made me fell 100x better and the rest of the day was soo much fun as well as learning everything I need to successfully go about the harbour . Highly recommend Tristan and Boatwise to get your boat training! The booking process was super smooth, Tristian communicated with us multiple times before the course to ensure we were prepared well. Dave, our instructor for the day, was incredibly professional and friendly. He was a wealth of information and a highly skilled boarder. We were out on a very cold and windy September Sunday, Dave made sure that we learnt our basic boat skills in that choppy water in an amazing way. We did this training as a family - 2 adults and our 13 year old. There were 2 others with us doing the course. Everyone had a go (sometimes multiple times) to make sure we had learnt that particular skill (parking, mooring, anchoring, etc) and despite the horrid weather, we had a boat load of fun 😁. Thanks a tonne, Dave! Tristian followed up the next day on how we go about getting our boat license. 👍🏼 Tristian and Dave both mentioned that they'd be willing to help out with boat questions in the future, a huge thank you for the lovely service! In all, we are very glad we went with Boatwise. There are a lot of choices out there, you will absolutely NOT go wrong with Boatwise!

Tristan is extremely good at teaching everything you need to know to drive a boat from the ground up. In four hours he had me anchoring, mooring, driving confidently on the harbour and reverse parking at the marina, when I’d never previously driven a boat. Can’t wait for my next lesson!

My partner and I had a fantastic experience on the boat course we completed with Boatwise. Tristan made the booking process straight forward and efficient. Following completion of the course Tristan has been supportive on the next steps and with offering guidance on our own boat. The course was completed on a beautiful RIB with Dave, an exceptionally knowledgeable sailor, who explained everything very well. Tristian was great, he taught us so much in a span of less than 3 hours on our boat. He showed what was most important about boat safety and to manoeuvre our first large vessel. Highly recommend Tristian and Boat wise.

Had a great lesson with Tristian learning how to adapt to driving a dual engine boat. It was very helpful and I learned a lot. Tristian was calm and patient and he explained and demonstrated things well. Money well spent.

Back in late 22 and jan 2023 I was new to larger cruisers and needed to master the skills and confidence required to return my 42ft cruiser to its birth down a narrow fairway at my Mariner in range of wind conditions . My first attempt without training and before lessons with Tristian Mooney were incredibly stressful . I needed our dockmaster in the tender to assist and felt other owners running to protect their precious boats . I also was blessed to have two young strong family men onboard to fend me off other stationary vessels . Incredibly stressful. I made a pack with myself that I must get professional guidance and training to master the skills required . I have successfully returned to my birth now 88 times … sometimes perfectly but there are different challenges as Every time the wind and the tides are different . Thanks to the skills shared by Tristian Mooney of BOAT Wise and the videos I captured in my lessons I have Tristian over my shoulder as I approach my fairway and berth. I highly recommend Boatwise . Boat Captain's must master many different skills and procedures.Boat Wise training with Tristian Mooney will give you the skills and confidence you need to arrive back home at your berth safely .

Tristan from Boatwise is very patient, kind and very friendly. He has built up my skills and confidence in boating, he taught me how to berth, approach the fuel wharf, pick up a mooring, and most importantly I was finally able to understand the underlying principals behind how wind affects the boat's behaviour under different circumstances. We were fortunately referred to Boatwise by the Pardo dealer when we bought our new boat and having not had a boat for 10 years we thought we just needed a refresher course. Almost one year later I think we have probably used just about every service possible......to say that Tristian goes the extra (nautical) mile would be an understatement!! He has increased our skill levels in all respects, has referred first class service providers to us who are now part of our "team", made great and practical suggestions to maximise enjoyment of the boat(both technically and socially!) and provided successful boat license tuition to our daughter and son in law(and skippered the boat for their wedding!) He has also combined tuition on the trip out with skippering on the way back when circumstances required!! Tristian is very efficient and always more than punctual. Safety is his prime focus in tuition and Tristian upholds the highest standards in all aspects of the maintenance of the boat. The tuition is friendly and concepts explained well. We are looking forward to continuing to widen our skills with the assistance of Boatwise. We would wholeheartedly recommend Tristian and Boatwise without any hesitation.

Tristian Mooney’s reading, quiz and checklist are clear, concise and easy to read. As a retired seafarer medical examiner I can see he has a risk assessment and proactive approach. Captain Allen who took our course from Gladesville Bridge Marina to the harbour heads was thorough, encouraging and patient with all six of us in an ex-police RHIB. We covered low and high speed manoeuvres, docking, mooring, anchoring, man over board and safe passage through the busy Saturday afternoon Sydney Harbour. It was fun!

I engaged Tristan for training in docking and general boating, completing six sessions thus far. Each lesson has been incredibly informative, significantly enhancing my understanding and skills. In my opinion, Tristan's instruction is crucial for anyone looking to safely enjoy boating, particularly for those without formal training. Learning the correct techniques is vital to avoid potential injuries to oneself or others, as well as preventing damage to your own and others' vessels. I really enjoyed getting my hands on a “real boat” and actually practicing various maneuverers to make sure I am capable of handling a power boat effectively and safely for my family.
